The story of an upper bourgoisie and aristocratic German couple, Heinrich (who had Jewish background on his father´s side), and Maria. In 1935 they moved from Germany to Brazil. In Brazil, Heinrich was an entrepreneur. From Brazil, he helped Jewish relatives escape Nazi Germany. The book describes the move, by various relatives, to Argentina and to the United States, as well as Heinrich´s and Maria´s family histories. Written by André Landau-Remy, Heinrich´s grandson, the book was initially based on long texts left by Heinrich. Lastly, André describes his childhood memories of his grandparents´ house in Petrópolis, in the mountains near Rio de Janeiro.
