    av Terlizzese Lawrence J Terlizzese

Today's Technological progress is mankind's greatest achievement, but may lead to total destruction. Technological progress consumes more than it produces, it pursues its own ends not that of humanity's and cannot accelerate indefinitely on a planet with finite resources. Jacques Ellul noted "[t]echnique (technology) has its limits. But when it has reached those limits, will anything exist outside them . . . is it (technological acceleration) not succeeding in undermining everything which is outside it?" (Ellul 1964, 85) Once technological limits are reached will anything be left? Transhumanists expect that technological acceleration will culminate by mid-century in an event they call the "Singularity" a technological Omega Point or convergence of human and artificial intelligence that will give rise to a god-like super computer (Artilect) which promises a century of progress in one hour.Despite apparent immediate gains, technology makes the human plight worse through exhaustion of resources and spiritual slavery. The Singularity will mark the end of technological progress as it reaches completion without redressing the spiritual problem inherent to the human condition. This means that all who step into the Singularity will enter a void, a digital black hole. The solution is as simple as the problem is sublime, step away from the edge of the abyss slowly.

  • - Evangelism and Engagement with Postmodern People
    av Beville Kieran Beville
    245

Once upon a time, Postmodernism was a buzz word. It pronounced Modernism dead or at least in the throes of death. It was a wave that swept over Christendom, promising to wash away sterile, dogmatic and outmoded forms of church. But whatever happened to postmodernism? It was regarded as the start of a major historical transition to something new and promising and hailed as a major paradigm shift. Is it a philosophy that has passed its "sell-by" date? No! The radical fringe has become the dominant view and has been integrated into all aspects of life, including the Christian church. With the emergence of multicultural societies comes interaction with different belief systems and religions. Values like tolerance and a dislike of dogmatism have become key operating concepts, which reflect a change in worldview. This change is affecting every area of life, including the way we believe and what we believe. The effects are far-reaching. Postmodernism presents new challenges and opportunities for Christians. In this book Kieran Beville presents Postmodernism as a quest for significance, meaning and belonging and outlines evangelistic strategies for reaching Postmodern people with the abiding good news of the gospel.

  • - Anti-Semitism From Its Beginnings to the Holocaust Years
    av Christopher Persaud

Jews are indisputably the most persecuted people in the annals of history. At the source of Jew-hatred in its myriad forms is anti-Semitism, a sinister and vile mindset that has existed since Old Testament times or for thousands of years. Anti-Semites pervade social, religious, economic and political confines, even mainstream Christianity, and their dislike for people of Jewish ancestry often translate into mindless persecution and slaughter, such as the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis and their collaborators during the Second World War in the mid-twentieth century whereby over six million Jews met their deaths in the Holocaust.Anti-Semitism, instead of diminishing after the horrors of World War II, showed no sign of decline, and it seems as though the entire world, with a few exceptions like the Jewish nation of Israel itself and the United States of America, is at loggerheads with Jews. Even international peacekeeping and monitoring organizations like the United Nations (and its numerous spinoff groups) are known to discriminate, sometimes barefacedly, against Jews and Israel. Middle Eastern Arabs and Muslims harbor intense loathing for Israel and Jews, and notwithstanding their occupancy of over ninety-nine percent of Middle Eastern territories, seek to covet the less than one percent of land in which Israelis reside-by any means necessary.Despite the seemingly insurmountable hardships and challenges Jews have faced throughout the centuries, they persist and even progress in today's societies. They leave their enemies awe-struck at their resilience and their will to survive. It seems as though Israel and Jew, in general, enjoy a kind of divine providence. ISRAEL and Jews around the world continue to stand tall today-against all odds!

  • - How Can We Believe Inerrancy of Scripture In the Originals When We Don't Have the Originals?
    av Edward D Andrews
    259,-

"Inerrancy of Scripture: How Can We Believe Inerrancy of Scripture in the Originals When We Don't Have the Originals?" delves into the complexities surrounding the authenticity and inerrancy of the Bible. Author and conservative Bible scholar, provides a comprehensive exploration of how faith in the inerrancy of Scripture can be maintained even in the absence of original biblical texts. Throughout the book, the author examines the formation of the Canon, scrutinizes the doctrine of biblical inerrancy and infallibility, and explores why we don't necessarily need the original manuscripts to believe in the inerrancy of Scripture. The discourse extends to why the Holy Spirit would allow for errors in copies after inspiring the original inerrant texts and probes how we can reconcile belief in inerrant originals when we don't possess them. Diving into the book writing process of the New Testament, the author discusses the place of writing, the role of the scribe, and the influence of inspiration and inerrancy during the writing process. Further sections of the book tackle the issues of textual variants, the early Christian view of the integrity of the Greek New Testament books, and the legacy of the Hebrew Scriptures. As skepticism grows in the modern age, the author brings attention to the dangers of skepticism, ambiguity, and uncertainty, and offers readers a faithful response to selective skepticism when it comes to God and the Bible. The book also explores the role of the Holy Spirit in the inspiration of the Bible's authors and presents explanations for common Bible difficulties. "Inerrancy of Scripture" concludes with a thoughtful consideration of why God has allowed the proliferation of different religions, numerous Christian denominations, and a multitude of textual variants in the books He inspired. This work serves as a detailed and nuanced study for those seeking to navigate the intersections of faith, historical criticism, and scriptural understanding in the pursuit of biblical inerrancy. Ideal for scholars, theologians, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the reliability of Scripture, this book is an invaluable addition to your theological library.
