I couldn't feel my legs, but they were there because I had to touch them to believe it. My husband and my baby girls flashed through my mind. Mercy and Grace Neighborhood Heroes is a story of servanthood at an early age. This story was inspired early one morning while praying and enjoying quiet time with my heavenly Father. It was written out of inspiration to show that children can volunteer and feel like they make a difference in the world.Both Mercy and Grace love to help in their community. Mercy loves to sing and has been told she has the voice of an angel. She uses her angelic voice to sing to the elderly in a local nursing home. Grace doesn't want anyone to go hungry. She volunteers by making and passing out sandwiches for the less fortunate. When the girls are faced with a struggle that would bring a halt to their service, they enlist two friends to help.Communities change through growth. This story shows how four friends put their heads together by enlisting the help and advice of the Father. Life is a journey, and most people with the brightest lives began theirs on the darkest paths. Even though many tread uncertain paths, only a few who secure divine help can complete their journey. I don't know where you are on the road to victory, on the path to success, and the grand adventures of life's ups and downs. I have found that there's no mountain too high, valley too low, or destination too far for divine help--the help that I've enjoyed up until now. God is intentional in everything he does.Therefore I invite you on a journey through one of the darkest paths of my life. On my journey, I encountered peaks that caused me to stumble, valleys I had to fall on my knees and crawl through, mountains that God had to carry me over, and even rivers that tried to drown me. For it required the loss of so-called friends, relatives, and even my youngest child. But even after suffering great loss, there is tremendous victory.In truth, it is a path that could only be traveled by one--a narrow and uncertain terrain; a journey I am yet to complete. But as you tag along on this adventure, I have a question: Would you trust God even when you can't trace him? Do you even know what it means?

My book is about disappointment, love, pain, betrayal, and success. My dream was to finish high school in 1974 and go straight to college. I had a minor setback. My high school sweetheart was pregnant. I had a decision to make, either go to college or find a job. This was the most important decision I had to make in my life. But I chose to take care of my unborn child. I had to put college on hold. So at the age of eighteen, I married her. Eight years later, we were divorced. I was faced with another important decision: to raise my daughters without their mother. She gave me sole custody through the court. Now I had to take the role of both parents. I found love again in my third wife. There were struggles in raising six children. I had three failed businesses, which was heartbreaking, but I never gave up on business. I went back to college and graduated with an associate degree and a bachelor's degree in business and became successful. I overcame my failures from my first wife and worked on a successful marriage with my current wife. I refused to give up on life. God always walks beside me. The church is my greatest blessing. I also talk about incest, family members molesting my daughters. There were no male role models in my family.

God loves you. He wants you. And He has a plan for your life. When you feel broken and unusable, there is no better place to be than in the presence of the Lord. When all you have left is to cry out to Him, do it. When there is nowhere else to turn except to the pages of Scripture, do that too. When you feel you can no longer stand, but nothing in you wants to fall to your knees, do it anyway. Nothing takes Him by surprise, and God is more than capable of providing rescue in your time of need. If He chooses not to, trust that He will use your circumstances to help someone else in their broken time.I don't know what struggles you are going through right now. I don't know if you are surrounded by the pressures of life closing in on you, feeling all hope is lost. What I do know is that we all have our own stories, complete with broken pieces the Lord would love to repurpose. There is nothing you can go through that God is unaware of. There is nothing outside of His control.BROKEN BUT STILL USABLE is a compilation of personal testimonies as well as messages preached over my tenure as a student pastor. This is my life, my heart written down. My hope for you as a reader is to be encouraged and to know you are not alone. I desire for you to connect with my God stories and to be reminded of crucial biblical principles as they pertain to just some of Scripture's real-life accounts. At its core, this book is Gospel-driven, and I pray it points all who read it to Christ who is "the author and perfecter of our faith."

She would lift Togi and dance around the room singing a celebration song just because she was happy also!

The thing is, miracles do occur and occur often, if you are willing to look for them. God never turns away from us, even when it seems like our world is falling apart. He is always right there, helping us back up to our feet.God's love and faithfulness is what gave me the strength to move forward when I awoke in an ICU and was told my husband and oldest son had been killed.Miracles are what kept me treading water when I was briefed on the very slim chances my other two children would make a full recovery. The chances of my son's mere survival were nonexistent.I was unwilling to accept anything the doctors told me. I knew in my heart that God had us and my babies would be okay. I steadied my heart, set my jaw; I prayed, and I asked others to pray.God has taken care of us every single step of our journey and continues to today.Our story is not over. We survived, we are healing, we are pushing forward, we are living.We are waiting on the next miracle.

There were many encouragements to Ken during his five-year diary called Ken's Greatest Challenge, many heartfelt and inspirational messages from family, friends, coworkers, students, those who knew Ken, and those who knew about Ken.This guestbook is a collection of these messages that were all read by Ken. We were like the "Lafayette Escadrille" flying our aircraft with precision and cunning like the World War I volunteer pilots, scarves around our necks, looking for a chance to even the score for that day's fighting. Known as the "Purple Gang." those we supported knew that when the Purple Gang were on call, they would be protected and had the best chance to come back from their mission alive.Later in life, as we gathered as old pilots, at my home near Charlotte comparing our lives; we realized that we had more in common than we could ever have known. The hand of God was evident as we told our war stories and life stories.We laughed, we cried, and the love for each other was so evident that we vowed to repeat our reunion again within the next year or so. Little did we know that one of our own present that weekend would die that December, the first in our band of brothers to fall after all this time. All of us will miss you, John Houston; we called him "Howdy."

Doubts and fears, like a tangled web, seize each day. New threats and what-ifs become unwanted companions. Rushing through life and pursuing busy work becomes the norm until one morning the words "come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 NIV) resound in my ears. This is a promise from Jesus. Could he be talking to me? Is he really El Roi, the God who sees? Does he really draw near? Pushing away from my desk, I glare out the window. The whole world is buzzing with life. It is like a drama unfolding. The walk is invigorating. His presence surrounds me. Focusing on him overrides those doubts and fears; they begin to flee. There is a closeness to him I've not felt as he calls me to reset. Words of assurance float through my mind from Psalm 46:10: "Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Now it seems everything I see reminds me of his great love and his abiding presence. My prayer is you will find him faithful to untangle your doubt and fears and restore your joy as you journey through this little book, Reset.
