"Ali" was inspired by a young boy who, while on Summer vacation, had petted a baby alligator. His excitement in retelling of his adventure was contagious.

We were each hauling about 60 pounds of gear to cache higher up on the mountain, and it was tough work. We split the gear up between backpacks and sleds, but had to strike a balance - too much gear on our backs made us sink deeper into the snow, but too much in the sleds pulled us back down the slope. "Yeah, but now it's your turn to break trail," Matthew shouted back. It was Day 8 of our expedition on Mt Logan, and we had just ridden out a three-day storm at King Col at 13,500 ft. I've wanted to write another book for quite some time now. My last work, Unlikely Allies: 8 Steps to Bridging Divides that Impact Leadership, was written and published in 2010. I love to write. I just don't make the time to do it as often as I should or desire. Sharing information, empowering, and inspiring people is what I truly love to do. Part of the challenge of why it's taken me so long to write another book is I didn't know what I was going to write about. Should it be about business, politics, inspiration, or motivation? Yes, there are other books with those topics brewing in my mind, but something out of the ordinary happened to me in 2021 and it's been in my heart to share it. When I first received the news, I was stunned. It absolutely took me by surprise, but oddly, I didn't get emotional about it. The follow-up letter, additional tests, and consistent information shared to me by the nurses and doctors prepared me for what was to come. They were kind and gentle with the news. Methodical, prepared, and knowledgeable about everything they expressed to me. You see, they've seen all of what I was to experience before. Probably hundreds of times with all the people they serve. But this was my first time...ever. And so, my story, my journey, will be told and is my next published work. As you read this book, you will note that I switch from first person to third person throughout. Parts of this work are direct comments from my journal on any given day. The devotionals for this book were written by the author during the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 - 2023. During a time when churches and businesses were closed, the author began to search for ideas and methods to stay in touch with the members of the church that he pastored.Many were confused, worried and contemplating where to turn and what to do. He came up with the idea of devotionals, which were delivered to his parishioners by phone contact two days of each week from 2020 and even continue presently.Members of the congregation welcomed this form of communication when they could not gather in fellowship. Even now, some do not feel safe to gather in crowds and rely on these devotionals as a means of being spiritually fed.These devotionals reflect ways of coping with the times in which we live. We pray that they will bless and encourage each reader to know that God cares and He is an ever-present help in our lives.

Now that I have been through my deep, dark valley and came out victorious I can encourage others to keep your hope alive because "it is not finished until God says it's finished."This book "Walking through the valley" my journey through sickness was compiled as a means of heightening the awareness and faith of the readers who may be going through some of life's challenges. If you or your family members are experiencing any form of illness or have been told by the doctor that your condition does not look good, this is the book for you to read. This book will provide the tools you need to face your tomorrows and force you to pray without ceasing "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." (Ephesians 6:18) increase your prayer life. All bible verses that are quoted in this book are taken from the King James Version (KJV), and it is hoped that you will search the scriptures for yourself because in them you will find life. While going through my sickness I was not able to search the bible to find encouraging scriptures, but there were those scriptures in my memory that I recalled to mind. It is therefore important for us to study the scriptures while we have the chance because we will certainly need them in times of crisis.
