Could we analyze power-sharing through the rear-view mirror? The politics of Lebanon and Northern Ireland are relevant case studies to answer this question. Using Pierre Nora's lieux de memoire scheme of historical memory, this book crafts a theory of sites of social interaction (SSI) and strategies of social cohesion in power-sharing institutions. SSIs and cohesion strategies that increase tensions will cause power-sharing failure in the long run, and vice versa. Thus, there is a causal link between power-sharing and ethnic tensions in divided societies, through mechanisms of SSIs and cohesion strategies. Lebanon and Northern Ireland encode power-sharing with different sites of social interaction and cohesion strategies, as a reflection of a society's composition and institutional design, respectively. Power-sharing implementation provides the missing link in our knowledge of power-sharing and ethnic tensions. At Boston College, this work won the 2021 Donald S. Carlisle Award for academic excellence in political science.

This book was born from a situation where a child was anxious about going to summer camp in the midst of a pandemic. The author, among others, was asked if he wanted to write and send an encouraging letter to this child at camp. It was out of this situation, that What You See At The Park came to life. Anyone can be anxious when facing the unknown but it is the author's prayer that thru this book you will see something new when facing these moments. This is a book with a message that children of all ages need today.

She burst into uncontrollable sobs. And he let her get it out, wanting to reach out and embrace her, hold her but daring to interrupt the flood of raw emotion now being released through so many tears. She cried like a little helpless baby until he had no choice but to hold her. And when he took her into his arms where he could feel her body close to his, he was falling backwards through the memories of their romance... His career was the perfect American tragedy, layered by those darker images reflected in the shadows of the invisible black man. He was that rare commodity and commercial powerhouse with artistic value and street credibility. His rapid ascent to fame came actually from the dark side of the American dream, which afforded him a chance to develop a reputation and image that made him one of Detroit's most infamous personalities. He was living the hustler's life through the poetry of his art. Outside the walls of the biggest walled prison in the world, he stood in the broken sunlight and took council with himself, a man consciously trying to decide what course to follow... Strange Fruit is that broken memoir that imagines a journey through the mind and madness of a starving artist trying to reconcile sins of a generational curse. Success would be the better revenge. He was well aware of the contradictions in his lifestyle. Society wouldn't let him forget. Determination couldn't be disenfranchised. Donavon Taylor was raised in the trashy back alleys of Detroit and the systematic racism of old, at a time police were killing unarmed black people on video and getting away with state sponsored murder. He was a diamond in the dirt. He had no real choice but to fight against his own character flaws and survive both the sacred and the profane. He was a native son of the city. He was Detroit everyday... He was an artist who hustled all his life through the poetry of being black in a day and time when being black meant you had to march and protest for Black Lives to Matter. He was forced to be humble and stand on the front lines fighting injustice and inequality. Trump republicans were losing the culture battle while unresolved grievances and bitterness revealed itself through America's painful politics: voter suppression, police violence, mass shootings and the rise of right wing militant hate groups. QAnon supporters were living their American dream in the cult of an alternate universe quarantined in a bubble of lies and conspiracy theories. Donny was forced to deal with the drama of being the black antagonist in a global pandemic while America stare into the abyss of insurrection, old Jim Crow antics and ghosts of the Confederacy.

A man drives a car from one tattered corner of the nation to another in the year of COVID. Passing from winter flurries to the wide angled West, over landscapes both shuttered and moribund, driving becomes a trance where the odometer flips over and time is the length of a song on radio. In In the Underground Garage, the poet describes not geographical states so much as the state of being in transit, where solitude slips into silence and you learn that the road is driving you.

Being a young naive girl with low self-esteem thinking no one understood her not even herself. Living in a house or world with a total of seven siblings and thinking she was not good enough. Looking back on pass events supernaturally and naturally changed my course of life. Always feeling to be love I had to give up something of myself but never really receiving the true love that couldn't or should I say wasn't found until I met Jesus. Always aiming to please others even when it meant doing things that were wrong and sometimes life threatening. Caught up in two worlds not knowing my purpose in life and that she did matter. Loved people but was afraid to allow them to get too close. Felt sheltered, unloved, left over for someone who I'd thought could truly love me. Taking abuse, neglect and abandonment in my soul. Being a young lady found adventure in belonging or sleeping around in hopes to find love. Crying profusely at night, on the prey to seek that which was lost but never truly being satisfied or at peace. Suffered a lot of bitterness, anger and shame to be called a woman, child or whatever. Sought out things which wasn't in my best interest but to feel love is what I sought the most. Founding my true self through perseverance and seeking to be a better person is what kept me all those years. When God met me where I was, my whole life changed. I am yet being transformed into his image and likeness through the things I suffered and endured throughout my lifetime. Have faith and trust God because your outcome is exceedingly greater than you can ever imagine. Thank you all for taking the time to read my story!!!!

After going to various states on the Major League landscape over 21 seasons, poet/writer Thomas Porky McDonald came upon the notion of continuing to tour the rest of the contiguous United States, using Minor League parks as a starting point. A pair of Western tours with his niece Jaclyn and her son Alex, as well as a stop in Graceland with his sister Patti, would be in the mix, with each stop bringing out more of McDonald's signature poetry. Poet in the Parks is a sequel of sorts, as the earliest trips chronicled feature returns to Major League parks with his Poet in the Grandstand road partner, Adam Boneker, who later hits the Minors trail with McDonald, as well as a stop in New Orleans during the time of a World Pandemic. Ultimately, this second travel/poetry volume is merely a quest to savor the American landscape, no matter how many cities, states, parks and places of interest you pass through along the way.

My book tells my personal story in fiction form. I was abused by my husband. I loved him, forgave him, and trusted him each time that I went back to him. For outsiders looking in, many can not understand the stock home syndrome that a woman lives through. We as women are dependent on our abusers and are scared to leave. This book explains the honeymoon phases. They are not always bad to us. When it's good it's great. When it gets bad it's horrifying. We loose sight of what normal is. We lose our self respect, dignity, and strength. We lose our support systems such as family or friends outside of the relationship. We are alone, scared, and depressed. I went back one too many times and it ended in tragedy. But, I did survive. It is years later and I can finally face it and talk about it. This story is to help other abused women. I can relate to the cycles and the exhaustion that go along with them. This book is to tell other women I have been there, I understand, and there is hope.
