Do you love to play outside with your friends, or would you rather play video games on a computer? Well, a young girl named Sophie loved her fun childhood of active play. She loved going to parks, playing outdoors with friends, riding bikes, and playing sports. She also loved reading, coloring, and playing games. But what happens when she first sees a glowing screen in her house and continues to see more and more of these, both in her home and eventually school? Everyone seems to have a screen to look at! Will she spend more time staring at a screen or playing video games all day, instead of playing with her friends? Find out how Sophie learns that technology and devices have a time, place and day, but this needs to be balanced with family, friends, study, and play. This book is a good reminder for everyone how important balance is in life!

Despite conventional medicine and pharmaceuticals, there is a growing trend toward seeking more natural forms of healing and health maintenance. Pharmaceuticals can have harsh side-effects, and many times pharmaceuticals cannot be used to treat certain types of illness. For example, if someone has a viral infection, antibiotics cannot be used to treat that infection. I have worked with many patients with varying ailments and health concerns, treating them with natural or homeopathic remedies. From my experience working with these patients, it is evident that, when used properly and with insight, natural and homeopathic prescriptions can work as well or even better than conventional medicine and pharmaceuticals. This book is not meant to replace your family physician, but it is a guide to healthier living through wiser food consumption. I believe if people used naturopathic and homeopathic remedies, overall health would increase and the need to go to doctors, specialists, and surgeons would decline significantly. Here's to a happy, healthy life; naturally.

This book weaves glimpses of some of the author's experiences; intertwined with the experiences of friends, family and acquaintances; in his half-century journey to understand the impact of oppression and trauma on his life and the country. The author explores how the murder of his young friend Matthew Shepard, and being briefly thrust into the national spotlight, affected the direction and focus of that journey. The book chronicles his movement from the deafening silence of growing up in the "don't ask don't tell" environment of Wyoming; through that horrific murder; and into decades of painstakingly slow, positive, change toward social justice; accompanied by a growing negative backlash culminating in "don't say gay" and other hate-based legislation.

The Corisco Conspiracy is the story of the Gunpowder Plot (the "conspiracy" of the title) as related, in crystal-clear prose, by William Shakespeare. It has long been suspected that the Shakespeares of Stratford-upon-Avon were crypto-Catholics. In this tell-all memoir, William, the first son of John and Mary Shakespeare, not only authenticates that suspicion, but also reveals significant events that happened in the Catholic underground of Elizabethan and Jacobean England. The most noteworthy of those events is the first meeting of the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot. It took place in Corisco, an island in present-day Equatorial Guinea which figures prominently in Shakespeare's narrative. That was in November 1585 - twenty years before the plotters' historic gunfight with security officers in Staffordshire.Corisco was not Shakespeare's only link to Africa. Some of his fellow "Jesuit messengers" were Afro-Europeans. He himself wrote only one of the plays for which he is famous. The rest were supplied to his acting troupe by a different spy: a Portuguese-African princess, who was instructed to write in them encoded messages for Roman Catholic theatre-goers. The Bard married twice. His second wife, the hitherto unidentified Dark Lady of the Sonnets, was a Muslim from the Kingdom of Malabo. So, he embraced Mohammedanism. His confidants, a London couple of Malian descent, were also Islamic members of the Church of Rome. Many more Catholic rebels were implicated in the Gunpowder Plot than have thus far been listed in history books. Shakespeare does justice to them all in his account.

You in Me chronicles my journey of healing, learning, and growth from the small Caribbean Island of Dominica to Canada and recognizes the many misunderstandings encountered along the way. Such misunderstandings could keep us perpetually stuck in limiting beliefs and prohibit our progression to a more productive and enjoyable life. When a change of course in life is desired in order to accommodate a more successful integration in a fast-developing society, it is imperative that these misunderstandings be faced with probing questions as to why they occur and our participation and contributing factors in causing them. Our participation may sometimes be mainly unconscious, making the cause difficult to detect. The effect of and on behavior is a good indicator that something is amiss and may need some mode of adjustment. We all share that commonality in unconscious behavior, and the poetry You in Me speaks to the reconciliation of relationships with oneself, others and more importantly, the spirit, which gives fervor and strength to drive the unknown to awareness. When brought to the light of day, misunderstandings may be examined for deeper reasons and meanings, and by the grace of the ever-present spirit, we may be renewed and replenished. A conscious effort is required to bring about these restorations, and You in Me addresses some of these reconciliations. Therefore, with passion, creativity, and sensitivity, I invite you to join me on this engaging adventure of self-discovery and evolution, which sheds some light on a hopeful and brilliant tomorrow.Lorraine J. Barcelona - Enchanting City is a new illustrated children's guidebook to the magical capital city of Catalonia, Spain. The colourful guide is divided into nine chapters, each written in a contemporary, poetic style which should fascinate and encourage curiosity in readers from the age of nine upwards. There are chapters on the legendary La Rambla, Camp Nou - FC Barcelona's fantastic football ground, Montjuïc, the '92 Olympic Games and much, much more... The poetical style of the chapters makes it easier for children (including less-motivated learners) to remember the information and new or difficult words, while developing a fascination for language. Each chapter even has its own set of four fun quiz cards which can be used with friends. There is also a glossary which gives curious readers more information about places and expressions in the text. The author has been writing texts and materials for teaching the English language since 2011.

This collection has been garnered and put together from hand-drafted papers and (my sister having taught me how to type so that she could read my scrawl!) from a life's collection of typed manuscripts.

When immersed in the horror of domestic violence, you either give up and die inside or you remove yourself and live in your imagination. Nobody believes that it will happen to them - but it does - and it is real. It does not discriminate; it seeps over the threshold of every class, religion and gender. Abusers are clever; they relieve you of friends first, then family, until you have only them left. They tell you it is all in your head - that you are crazy and that you need help. They know your insecurities and this becomes their playground and you their play toy. An abuser does not care if you are sad, they do not care if you are broken and they have no interest in anything but total domination. You cannot fix them, you can never love them enough. You just have to leave.

Quietly reflective, the beautifully written poems in this slim volume offer a welcome respite from the noisy insistence of modern life. The language, now simple and direct, now rich in associations, double-meanings, and imagery, has its own natural rhythm and appeal regardless of subject and rhyme. Intriguing, absorbing, thought-provoking, the poems are innovative and fresh and the intensity of the verses in places will undoubtedly strike a chord with readers of all kinds - both established readers of poetry, those who read poetry now and again, and those turning to poetry for the first time. Largely relating one person's take on how it is to be in the world, the poems address such aspects of life as time, being, loss, culture, and contingency. The collection is divided into three sections - non-rhyming poems, rhyming poems, and a concluding section of lighter, more humorous verses, with each of two additional poems serving as foreword and afterword.
