Vengeance Is Mine is the story of the Calloway brothers, William and Samuel. As young boys, they idolized their father, who served his country in the Marine Corps. Thomas Calloway was a standout student and football player for the Crimson of Harvard University. He became a distinguished lawyer and married the love of his life. He provided a sturdy foundation for his two boys to follow in his footsteps. William is brilliant like his father, with an I.Q. of 170, while Samuel is hot-tempered like his mom but loyal to a fault. William is the older brother, attending Harvard and studying law just like his father.Upon graduation from college, Samuel is now old enough to enlist, and the boys do so together. They see plenty of combat, and along the way, they are both changed by the brutality of war. True horror is what one human being can do to another. When their tour of duty is over, William decides he wants to make a difference in the world and forgoes his law practice to submit his application to the FBI. His military background, high I.Q., and law degree make him a great fit for the bureau. Samuel is content to open up an exotic knife shop in his hometown of Warm Springs, Virginia. It doesn't take William long to realize that red tape and politics get in the way of actual justice. Frustrated, suspended, and near losing his job, he has a talk with Samuel one day about how justice would work in their world. Samuel is reluctant to get involved at first but agrees to keep an eye on a suspect who has eluded the law so far, a suspect William knows is guilty but can't prove. Samuel follows the suspect and catches him in the act of committing a horrible crime against an innocent child. What follows is one man's definition of justice.

In modern-day Seattle, Cole paces through the mundane, counting down the minutes until he can see his fiancée, Beth, to celebrate his 26th birthday. However, they did not celebrate when an emergency telecast took over every screen in the country to announce the impending nuclear doom, flying toward every major city in the United States. The city fell into chaos while Cole and Beth fought their way home to simply enjoy their last night alone and make peace with the sun about to set on their lives. It was when they woke up the next morning that they thought themselves the lucky ones. Only time would educate them on how unlucky they truly were. What would be universally referred to as The Fall, by survivors across the continent had far worse things in store than nuclear warfare. We watch the world unravel through the eyes of two desperate survivors, who are by no means heroes. In a world where cities become the home to creatures that stalk the night and mankind teeters on the brink of extinction, we see what true desperation really looks like. What people will do when they look death in the eye every single day when there is no room for honor or peace. We see what mankind is really capable of at its core and why it might very well be the worst parasite to plague the earth.

In my 10 plus years of teaching, I have found that students struggle with two major challenges in writing a quality capstone paper. First, they have difficulty creating a rigorous analytical framework. Too often, the papers tend to be more descriptive in nature, which means that the final policy recommendation may be flawed. This book attempts to fill that gap by discussing in detail the various components of the framework as well as their interdependence. Second, most public policy books are theoretical or conceptual, but it is difficult for students to make the transition from understanding the concepts to performing the actual quantification of the metrics so necessary to do the analysis. This book provides detailed instructions on how to do the quantification.

Word Up displays the realities in life, depicting the signs of the times through headline events as well as what happens in the home, on the job, or in social gatherings. Life can be a struggle. There are pros and cons in the ways that we deal with what is happening around us and, most importantly, what happens inside of us. Consider the following questions:Are we appropriately handling the challenges that can adversely impact our lives? How can we ensure that we are leaning and depending on something that is greater than ourselves - our connection with God?How can we build our relationship with God to ensure that we are on the right track and have ceased playing guessing games with important areas of our life?Word Up forces you to think with clarity and then gives you an opportunity to do something about your reaction to the bare facts. Word Up helps you to face head-on to the reality of a situation; it does not allow you to be timid, gloss over it, or just do nothing. Rather, Word Up gives you a choice: do nothing and watch things get worse or do something and bring about the change you want and deserve.Learn how to deal with situations rather than just quoting the Bible as though knowing and doing are the same. Real change in your life requires faith, and faith without action is null and void. Word Up requires action. If you really want transformative change in your life, read a topic that describes your situation. Begin to identify the deep change that is irreversible in nature, a change that you have only hoped for, but have not achieved. There is healing in Word Up as you read the Word of God that is so deeply embedded in real change. Allow God to work with you as you read this life changing analogy.
