A Portuguese slave ship leaves the Elmina Castle with hundreds of African slaves bound for the Americas, but one slave girl is left behind. A traumatic story of Asana and her new environment extol the attributes of the tradition and culture of the people of Edina, both of the spiritual and the mundane. The impact of the slave trade on all concerned is told with anger, love and even humour. In spite of her ordeal, Asana, like the people of Edina, remains strong like the anthill. The Elmina Castle features in a documentary film made by Bill Marshall on Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary queen mother of Ejisu in Ashanti, who was captured by the British colonial masters, who exiled her to Seychelles where she died. This play comes after a four year drought in any artistic work by the author.

The death of Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana, demonstrated a great irony: a man so much maligned and rejected in life, should be so praised and loved in death. The force of his personality, his convictions in the face of powerful opposition, and his vision for Ghana and a pan-Africa, are evident in his speeches. The forty-seven speeches in this first of five volumes are arranged chronologically, and were all made in the year 1960.

The author is a well known Ghanaian novelist, theatre writer and screenwriter. Kodzo's dramatic birth in a canoe in the middle of the Volta river, endows him with unique powers and a personal charm for which he is liked by some and violently resented by others. He is generally considered immune to all forms of danger. But he finds himself in jeopardy when he has an affair with the daughter of Tobge, a powerful chief, and also the daughter of Dr. Hoffman, a German scientist.

The author is trained in biology, microbiology, medicine and epidemiology in the US. His book is predicated on two main points: the Aids pandemic is so pervasive in Africa that drastic measures are needed; and that those measures must primarily depend on prevention. He discusses such a comprehensive approach and treatment, and stresses that the primary need is political will. The first four chapters deal with the general principles of history and epidemiology; and then focus on the effect of the epidemic in Africa and how to deal with it. Whilst a wealth of technical information is given, the language is accessible for the lay reader.
