ndividuals with special needs and/or disabilities are often victims of bullying. Heide Learns About Bullying teaches children what to do when a bully targets them. In this book, Heide learns how to respond when she is bullied and how to pray for those who mistreat her. Heide Loves to Cheer helps children understand how a person with intellectual disabilities feels and thinks. Billy, a ten year old, befriends Heide. Billy has a cousin with a cognitive disorder, so he isn't intimidated by Heide's behavior. What a refreshing break from the norm! Instead of a book being a fantasy break from the real world, this one is a reality break from our fantasy world! Ms. Stewart focuses our attention on a real character in a real situation, and helps us fall in love! -Joel Evers A Note from the Author My daughter was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck three times. This caused oxygen deprivation during her development in the womb and her traumatic birth. She was born with intellectual disabilities, Treacher Collins Syndrome, and mild Cerebral Palsy. She is also developmentally delayed. Having a "Heide" in my life is a precious gift from God. My daughter has an innocent, joyful, and loving spirit. For thirty-three years I have witnessed the general public's reaction to those who are different. I have volunteered with Special Olympics for twelve years, and worked in the public education system with special needs students. My daughter is the inspiration for the "Heide" series. If we can teach our children to see past the disabilities, to see the person, then we can enrich the lives of those who are often misunderstood and left out. If we will include them in our worlds, we will make a difference one opportunity at a time. Vicky Stewart LOOK FOR THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
