Lamb Lion LordMuch has been written, many sermons have been preached, and multiple predictions have been made about the book of Revelation. For some, the contents of this last book of the New Testament brings fear. Others find it to be confusing and hard to understand. What if the Lord intended for every generation to live as if they were the last? What if there is a clear and comforting message in this book, not just for the first generation of believers or the last, but for every believer of every generation?I believe there is! The book of Revelation was written to encourage every believer to endure and remain faithful no matter what opposition they face and to give them hope that the Lamb who was slain, the Lion of the tribe of Judah who rules, and the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord-not only when he returns but right now and forever-no matter how it may look. While exiled on the island of Patmos, the Lord gave the apostle John a Revelation of history and the world in which he lived from the perspective of heaven! The Church was facing persecution, but Jesus, the Lamb who had been slain, had won the victory! He will soon return to defeat the very enemy, establish God's Kingdom, and be joined with His people for all eternity. What those early believers were experiencing was not the whole story. Despite what they were seeing around them, their Lord had won the victory. He would "soon" return to rule, reign, and dwell with them for eternity. God gave the book of Revelation to call every believer after them to remain faithful in the face of opposition, to be encouraged that Jesus had already won the victory, and to give them hope that He will return. Come, Lord Jesus!
