Yet her work has received little scholarly attention. This critical study explores Forrest's entire body of work, including her fiction and (perhaps more important) her writing about writing, popular genres and her readers.

Topics include lesbian gothic, fantasy, science fiction, mixed genre texts, and historical background for the works discussed.
Offers an evaluation of the popular romance novel genre through the subgenre of the lesbian romance novel. This work describes the history of the lesbian romance novel and analyses works by authors writing in the genre as well as describing the ways in which lesbian romance novels reflect and transform the techniques of heterosexual romances.
