Our Sunahara journal urges you to imagine yourself walking along the winding lanes that are home to the weavers of Varanasi, India. At one time there were as many as 300,000 weavers in the area, but today there are no more than 40,000. This book has been named for the Urdu word for "golden," reflecting the shimmering piece of silk it reproduces.

Our Golden Trefoil design is inspired by a 16th-century French binding that originally housed a printing of the Opera Omnia of Giovanni Pontano (1426-1503). The design, thought to be created by Claude de Picques, features a classic trefoil (clover) motif, popularly found in some of the world's most iconic logos, crests, insignias and flags.
