Soggetto della tragedia è quello ovidiano, dal quale trasse origine la famosa novella: quella di Giulietta e Romeo che, del Novellino [1475] di Masuccio Salernitano, fu rielaborata nel 1500 da Luigi da Porto e da Matteo Bandello; ed emigrò poi in Inghilterra, dove Shakespeare ne trasse l'immortale tragedia "Romeo and Juliet"; mentre inserì l'episodio stesso di Piramo e Tisbe nel Sogno di Una Notte di mezza estate. Tale soggetto, immortalato dal sommo Shakespeare, l'ho interpretato esotericamente e mi sono soffermato a stabilire l'origine e poi l'effetto delle azioni umane. Facendo mie le parole del grande Alfieri, rivolgo al pubblico la preghiera di accogliere Tisbe, come un raggio, che rischiari l'animo umano e ne esalti i valori spirituali.
