Zion and A'nylah are friends, growing up with parents raising them with similar values. They have learned at an early age what love, patience and leave no man behind means; unlike most kids and friends growing up together, such as Jacob and Trinity, who are latchkey kids. In my previous books, "My Seat on the Bus" and "Roll Call," Jacob was a bully, and Trinity followed his footsteps. They were negative, and selfish bullies to their friends, and did whatever they wanted to do. But Zion and A'nylah, who were totally the opposite, would not turn their backs on their friends, no matter how bad Jacob and Trinity treated them. Because of Zion and A'nylah's selflessness, love, and patience, they forgave their friends, and challenged Jacob and Trinity to walk in their shoes! "Jacob," said Zion, "Dare to Walk in Our Shoes" for a day or two? Jacob and Trinity were curious and accepted the challenge. Four good friends: Zion, A'nylah, Jacob and Trinity race against time for a game of competition called suicide jump on the playground swings, only to be interrupted by the school bell. When Zion and A'nylah suggested they stop, and all go back to line up for roll call, Jacob and Trinity questioned their authority. Finding out that Mr. Peabody chose Zion and A'nylah for line monitors instead of them made Jacob and Trinity mad and jealous! Jealousy was not a good ingredient for their friendship; however, Zion was always told by his father, "No Man Left Behind," and Zion and A'nylah stand by those words.
