Maurice Leblanc published a collection of short stories called The Eight Strokes of the Clock in 1922. In response to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, Arsène Lupin first appeared in print in 1905. He was loosely based on the life of French anarchist Marius Jacob. Leblanc creates unique and enjoyable tales of adventure featuring one of the greatest literary characters of all time-Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief-by fusing criminal fiction, fantasy, and mystery. The world's best thief, Arsène Lupin is an unstoppable force for good whose escapades jeopardize the fortune and reputation of France's most depraved individuals. Lupin utilizes his amazing intelligence and chameleon-like ability to slip unnoticed through aristocratic society in this first book of Leblanc's adored series in order to steal, swindle, and cheat his way through life. Arsène Lupin, gentleman-thief, appears in eight short stories in this collection: At The Sign Of Mercury, Footprints In The Snow, The Lady With The Hatchet, Thérèse and Germaine, The Water-Bottle, On Top Of The Tower, The Case Of Jean Louis, and The Tell-Tale Film.

One of the seven wonders of the world is the Malaquis castle, which is located on the banks of the Seine. The castle's past is turbulent and severe like its outline, much like its name suggests. Numerous battles, sieges, assaults, rapines, and massacres have taken place there. Even the strongest heart would shudder if the crimes that have been done there were listed. The Queen's Necklace was carried by the Countess of Dreux-Soubise. It was the fabled necklace that the court jewelers Bohmer and Bassenge had created for Madame Du Barry. With the assistance of their lover, Jeanne de Valois, Lupin and Rétaux de Villette split it apart in 1785. The lovely stones that Bohmer had picked with such care were strewn by the Count de la Motte and his wife to the four winds of heaven. Later, he sold the mounting to the Cardinal's nephew and heir, Gaston de Dreux-Soubise. The English jeweler Jeffreys repurchased the few diamonds that were still in his possession and added additional stones of far lower grade to them.

Maurice Leblanc's mystery book The Crystal Stopper follows the exploits of gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. From September to November 1912, the novel was published in serial form in the French daily Le Journal. It was then published as a standalone novel. The terrible Panama scandals of 1892 and 1893 served as Leblanc's inspiration. The concept of hiding something in plain sight is taken from Edgar Allan Poe's short story ""The Purloined Letter"" and used throughout the novel. Two of Arsène Lupin's associates are detained by the police when a crime is committed during a break-in at the residence of Deputy Daubrecq. Both will get the death penalty, regardless of whether one is guilty or innocent of the crime. Lupin fights against the vicious blackmailer of Deputy Daubrecq, who is holding an incriminating document concealed in a crystal stopper, while he tries to free the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

The Hollow Needle written by Maurice Leblanc chronicles the exploits of gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. This was first published as a serial in the French magazine Je sais tout from November 1908 to May 1909, just like the first two volumes of Arsène Lupin's stories. With a few changes, it was published in June 1909 and the book has a plot of Isidore Beautrelet, a youthful but talented amateur investigator still in high school but who is ready to cause Arsène Lupin a lot of trouble, is Arsène Lupin's opponent this time. The second secret of Marie Antoinette and Alessandro Cagliostro, the secret wealth of the French monarchy, is given to Arsène Lupin by Josephine Balsamo in the book The Countess of Cagliostro. This is the world of Arsène Lupin (1924). Since the time of Julius Caesar, the Kings of France have been passing down a secret, which Arsène Lupin has now learned, in The Mystery of the Hollow Needle. The fabled needle has the most incredible riches one could conceive, including the money of the French monarchs and a collection of pearls, diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and queens' dowries.
