Kerry Wills was attempting to share his experience working in business with his son, who also plans to go into business after college. Upon contemplating an approach that would resonate with his teenager, he recognized that working in business is very much like playing an online role-playing game (RPG). Like an RPG, the business game has character types, player levels and ranks, interactions with other characters, rules to follow, quests to participate in, rewards to collect and varying ways to make progress and advance to higher levels. In nearly three decades working in business, Kerry has observed that the people who are the most successful are not necessarily the smartest ones nor the ones who do their jobs the best, but rather the ones that "play the game" the best. This book is intended to break down the game into its components, identify how the game is played, provide insights into optimally playing the game and suggest techniques to advance to higher levels. This book is intended for new entrants to the game as well as experienced players.

Over the last few decades, agile delivery methods have been increasing in popularity which has led to scaled agile models that encompass an entire organization. On the surface, these models do not look like they have project management functions or roles. Four key hypotheses will be proposed and explored for how project management concepts, competencies and principles are still needed in scaled agile models and how they need to evolve.

In today's environment, success in delivering projects is not based on a company having the best delivery framework or a project having the best plan or risk log, but rather on the skills of the people who are planning, managing and delivering on the work of that project. It is no longer sufficient to just have fundamental project management skills; resources also need to possess an augmented set of "soft" or consultative skills. This book focuses on the evolving competencies needed for project managers in the current environment. It proposes a framework called the "Consultative Project Management Competency Model" which outlines 25 essential competencies. Each competency is described with examples and proficiency differentiation for levels of experience. This book also defines a holistic approach for improving project management competencies of individuals or an entire organization.

This work takes us on a tour through the history of knitting, profiling such women as Elizabeth Zimmerman, whose opinions and book, "Knitting without Tears", popularized knitting in the 1970s.
