In his lifetime Verne wrote dozens of novels, many of which are well known ("From the Earth to the Moon," "20,000 Leagues Under the Seas," "Around the World in Eighty Days," Etc.) while many others are not ("Off On a Comet," "The Voyages and Adventures of Captain Hatteras," Etc.).In addition to his novels he also wrote numerous short stories, some for publication in the magazines of the day and others to be published in small, inexpensive editions.Not to mention his plays. This is the second collection of the shorter stories of Jules Verne. In this volume five tales ranging from the short to novella-length are presented to give a wide variety of his works. This collection is not unique as it was first published in 1887 under the title of A Winter Amid The ice.That is also the title of one of the stories. The book "In the Year 2889", has been considered important throughout the human history, and so that this work is never forgotten we have made efforts in its preservation by republishing this book in a modern format for present and future generations. This whole book has been reformatted, retyped and designed. These books are not made of scanned copies of their original work and hence the text is clear and readable.
