  • - our Shelter Dog: A Children's Book for ADULTS
    av James Curtis Geist
    119,-

Get a dog they said; it will be fun. I grew up with dogs and like the company of a well behaved dog. My stepson asks for a dog, and after two years, the wife and I go to our local animal shelter to find a canine companion. We come across a Pitbull-Shephard mix, and he is a quiet, handsome looking dog. He loves to be petted and is a bit nervous. The Shelter Committee reviews the families and our family is chosen. I spend $900 in preparation of welcoming the pooch "Ace" into our home. He is 37 pounds of nervous muscle. This story comes from my diary of the time we had Ace. Driving home from the shelter, I imagine Ace at my retirement party after giving my speech and eating some cake while he runs up and licks my face to congratulate me for working 45 plus years to be able to live in a house, have heat in the winter time and food in the fridge. A dog is a man's best friend. What happens when the dog becomes your nightmare? What will people say if I return this dog back to the shelter? It will be fun they said.

    av James Curtis Geist
    179,-

James Curtis Geist has been a public school teacher for over twenty-one years. This book is filled with funny and poignant anecdotes of working as a teacher in the nutty-marvelous world of a classroom. The book takes a look at the challenges and pulse of life of public school life in the 21st century. Subjects include perfectionism, substitute teacher life, bosses, childhood flashbacks to school days, stories of students, sexual harassment, guns, covid, terrorism, unions and false accusations. This is about a thoughtful teacher contemplating public school challenges and solutions. Suffering brings change teaching us to become better human beings and teachers. This is a life story in education is full of wit, warmth and wisdom, and will also make you laugh. This book also delves into one of the greatest fears of any teacher; a student with a grievance making a false accusation, because they can. This book shares James' experience in the fall of 2022 in suburban N.J. school district, because a group of mean girls did not like him. Why are there no legal consequences for young people who do so? What are teacher unions doing to protect their rank-n-file? Why is this allowed to continue in 2023? This the 29th book written by Geist. He has written an autobiography, books for children, young adults, history, and poetry and anecdotes. James has taught in N.Y.C., Newark, Jersey City, and a few charter schools. James lives in the woods of northern New Jersey with his wife and stepson. He is not related to Bill, Willie or Ken Geist, all authors, but wishes he was to take advantage of the nepotism connections.
