Tarzan throws off his three year cloak of civilization, and with a yell and a bound, is back at home again among the beasts of the Jungle, plunging into a series of adventures, so startling, exciting, and hair-raising that one gasps with astonishment. In the present story, powerful enemies first kidnap his young son, then abduct Tarzan himself and leave him marooned on the African coast. Here his early training serves him in good stead; he makes himself king of the jungle and eventually foils his enemies, and returns with his rescued wife and child to England. NOTE: Long available only with censored text, Fiction House Press is proud to present the original First Edition book version of this novel in the Tarzan Series.

Edgar Rice Burroughs believes in heredity. He has to; for what more striking proof of heredity could be adduced than the case of Jack Clayton? Who is Jack Clayton, say you? Why, the son of John Clayton, Lord Greystoke; otherwise Tarzan of the Apes. Yes; now you know! In spite of all the efforts of Lady Greystoke, ably seconded by Tarzan himself, to keep all knowledge of the wild from the youthful mind of their only son-going even so far as to prohibit his visiting the London Zoo-nothing could keep down the wild strain. And when Akut, the old gray ape, friend of Tarzan that was, came to London in the custody of all that was left of Alexis Paulvitch- NOTE: When the Tarzan series appeared in paperback form from Ballantine Books in the 1960's, Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. decided to "tone" down ethnic content. So, most of the books in the series were censored. These censored texts are the ones which Gutenberg.org (an Internet Public Domain story site) picked up and which most reprinters of the stories are using. ERBville Press always goes back to the original sources of the text, whether magazine, First Edition book, or newspaper, for their reprinting.

The circumstances that brought Tarzan northward into Kaffa are not a part of this story. Perhaps it is enough that the Lord of the Jungle loves to roam remote fastnesses still unspoiled by the devastating hand of civilization. Unsated with adventure, it may be that Abyssinia's 350,000 square miles of semisavagery held an irresistible lure for him in their suggestion of mysterious back country and in the ethonological secrets they have guarded from time immemorial. Wanderer, adventurer, outcast, Greek phalanx, and Roman legion, all have entered Abyssinia within times chronicled by history or legend never to reappear; and it is believed by some that she holds the secret of the lost tribes of Israel. What wonders, then, what adventures, might not her remote corners reveal! And it was to one such corner that the strange white warrior in armor of ivory led Tarzan to the luxurious court of the most beautiful woman in the world, to slavery, to the arena, to the lion pit, to an atmosphere of love and hate, of intrigue and murder, to new friends and powerful enemies, to the throne of the Great God Thoos, to flaming Xarator, and to the horrors of the Grand Hunt. If you are bored by the humdrum of the daily grind of civilization, lay aside the badges of your servitude, don a loin cloth of lion skin, seize bow and arrows and spear, and tread the silent trails of the mysterious jungle toward high adventure with Tarzan of the Apes.

The book "Llana of Gathol" first appeared as four separate stories, published in the pulp magazine Amazing Stories, comprising "The City of Mummies", "Black Pirates of Barsoom", "Yellow Men of Mars", and "Invisible Men of Mars". We present the original magazine texts as they first appeared in print, including the mistakes made by Ray Palmer, editor of Amazing Stories, in his editing of "Invisible Men of Mars", where he added text and dialogue to match the cover painting, but then forgot about the initial changes and failed to keep the storyline constant (dealing with the helmet worn by Mortus, not found in the original story but needed because of the cover painting).

NEVER-BEFORE-PUBLISHED RESTORED EDITION FROM EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS, INC.In 1940, as the world hurtled into the darkness of global conflict, Edgar Rice Burroughs turned his legendary writing talents toward an interstellar tale of wonder and adventure set on a war-racked planet-one whose star was so distant that it was invisible to the Earth's most powerful telescopes. Featuring a protagonist who is transported to the planet Poloda by means reminiscent of John Carter's projection to Mars, Beyond the Farthest Star is set in a wholly unique solar system in which all the planets are aligned in the same orbit and connected by means of an atmosphere tube that allows for potential travel between worlds via airplane. What has been unknown to readers is that the 1941 Blue Book magazine publication comprising Part I of Beyond the Farthest Star was heavily edited, with a substantial number of line edits on almost every page and several lengthy and meaningful passages-some more than a page long-excised throughout. That altered and abridged text was used as the basis for all book editions of the novel-until now. We are pleased to announce that we have gone back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' original typescript from our archives in Tarzana, California, and restored the author's preferred text of the novel in Beyond the Farthest Star: Restored Edition. Now, for the first time, enjoy this classic science fiction adventure in the way that Edgar Rice Burroughs intended it to be read!Beyond the Farthest Star: Restored Edition features a newly commissioned frontispiece by renowned artist Mark Schultz; classic interior illustrations by Roy G. Krenkel; an introduction by noted science fiction author Paul Di Filippo; a preface by ERB, Inc. Director of Publishing Christopher Paul Carey discussing the restorations to the text; maps of the planet Poloda and the Omos star system; a diagram of the Unisan alphabet and numbers; and an extensive section of rare and previously unpublished bonus materials mined from the archives of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., in Tarzana, California.A PLANET IN PERILWhen Nazi warplanes blast an American fighter pilot out of the sky, he awakens not in the expected afterlife but on a far-flung planet-one of eleven interconnected worlds hurtling around a strangely constructed star system. On Poloda, he earns a new name-Tangor, one who came from nothing-and a new home among the brave people of Unis, a nation locked in perpetual war against the brutish, totalitarian Kapars. But when news comes of a powerful invention that could turn the tides of the conflict, Tangor must undertake a daring undercover mission behind enemy lines. There, in vile Kapara, he will not only risk life and limb, but also brand himself as a traitor in the eyes of his newfound friends, as he continues his fight for freedom beyond the farthest star!Beyond the Farthest Star: Restored Edition (c) 1941, 1964, 2021 Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is the fifth adventure in the saga of the jungle lord and features both one of the series most celebrated locations, the lost city of Opar, as well as one of its most celebrated characters, the ruthless, obsessed and fatally beautiful La of Opar.Seeking to make off with some of the lost city of Opar¿s treasures, Tarzan survives an earthquake only to take a blow to the head and be stricken with partial amnesia, leaving him more wild beast than man. Tarzan can¿t know that the man he rescues from Opar¿s Neanderthal inhabitants is actually a deadly foe, or that his wife, Jane, is in mortal danger. Full of entwined plotlines, desperate danger and classic set pieces, Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar features one of the finest lost cities in fiction, a forgotten colony of Atlantis in ruins but still populated by semi-human primitives, full of fabulous treasure, and presided over by La, Opar¿s gorgeous and merciless queen. Fashioned in the mold of H. Rider Haggard¿s She, La is an unforgettable creation. Her fierce presence and the scenes of Tarzan¿s stunning reversion to bestial savagery help make this volume a favorite of many Burroughs aficionados. First appearing in book form in 1918, Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is part of a rich legacy that includes a series of 24 books and adaptations in film, radio, television, comics and more. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is both modern and readable.

Jungle Tales of Tarzan, the sixth book in the saga of the jungle lord, is a series of shorter adventures, all featuring young Tarzan when he knew no home but the wilderness and his best friends were creatures of the wild. This collection of interconnected short stories takes Tarzan back to his early years and tells of the exciting and formative events of his youth. These twelve tales show the ape-man before he learned of civilization or truly understood his human heritage. Tarzan finds an unlikely first love and first heartbreak, befriends an elephant, and tries to adopt a child with predictably mixed results. Gentle humor tempers tales of ferocious and violent action as Tarzan battles a cruel witch doctor and disguises himself in a lion skin with results both humorous and horrifying. There is a reflective tone some might not expect of the author, as young Tarzan learns the difference between reality and dream, and strives to understand, with none to explain or guide him, what is meant by ¿God¿. Many Tarzan fans find particular enjoyment in reading about the jungle lord¿s adventures in his wilderness element and this collection delivers all the thrills, mystery and adventure they could wish. First appearing in book form in 1919, Jungle Tales of Tarzan is part of a rich legacy that includes a series of 24 books and adaptations in film, radio, television, comics and more. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Jungle Tales of Tarzan is both modern and readable.

The Son of Tarzan is the fourth adventure in the saga of the jungle lord and the only volume to focus on his son, Jack. Raised in ignorance of his father's untamed nature, Jack will learn the truth of his heritage, the exhilaration of its primal power and the mortal danger of its primitive conflicts and ruthless foes.Edgar Rice Burroughs turns his attention to Tarzan's son, first seen as an infant in The Beasts of Tarzan. Fearing unjustified accusations of murder, Jack flees deep into the African jungle, to the very place his father, Tarzan, came of age. Like his mighty sire, Jack adapts to his new life in the wild, finding friends in the great apes and winning the name Korak, the killer. In rescuing Meriem, an abducted and maltreated young girl, Jack acquires a friend and companion in his life of exile. Their relationship is that of siblings but, as time passes and circumstances tear them apart, stronger emotions are revealed. The author's mastery of devious plotting, replete with cruel twists of fate that maximize the protagonist's danger and fear for their loved one, keeps the novel moving at a brisk pace and qualify it as one of the most rousing entries in the Tarzan saga. Originally published in book form in 1917, The Son of Tarzan is part of a rich legacy that includes a series of 24 books and adaptations in film, radio, television, comics and more. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Son of Tarzan is both modern and readable.

Tarzan of the Apes is the first story and origin of one of modern fiction¿s most enduring and mythic heroes. Raised in the savage jungle, young Lord Greystoke must reckon with brutal beasts and still crueler civilized enemies to understand and claim his human heritage.Viscount and Lady Greystoke survive a shipwreck on the jungle coast of Africa where their son is born. The couple perishes but the boy is taken in by a mother ape who recently lost her own child. Raised among apes and utterly unfamiliar with his humanity, young Tarzan discovers the cabin his father built and learns something of who he is and why he is so different from his ape companions. Pitted against a steady stream of daunting challenges, Tarzan will rise to rule his tribe of apes and encounter fellow humans at last, when another shipwreck maroons lovely Jane Porter and her comrades on his shore. By couching his extravagant imagination in clear, direct prose the author balances his novel on a razor edge between realistic drama and pure fairy tale. Tarzan remains a unique and indelible character, capable of terrifying acts of bestial violence or noble acts of loyalty and self-sacrifice. Originally serialized in a magazine in 1912, Tarzan of the Apes was issued in book form in 1914, the first volume in what would become a series of 24 books and a pop culture legacy that would encompass film, radio, television, comics and more. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Tarzan of the Apes is both modern and readable.

Special Edition Authorized by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., Featuring Rare and Previously Unpublished Archival MaterialsIn 1921, Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote a novel unlike any other in his entire catalog-a sordid tale of drug addiction, corruption, and murder set against the backdrop of Prohibition-era Hollywood. He believed it to be one of his finest works, written as it was from his own experience after he and his family moved to their Tarzana Ranch in Southern California and became exposed to both the allure and perils of nearby Tinseltown. Now, celebrate the hundredth anniversary of this timeless work in this authorized commemorative Centennial Edition, featuring a new foreword by Michael D. Sellers (author of John Carter and the Gods of Hollywood), a specially commissioned frontispiece by renowned artist Douglas Klauba, classic cover art by P. J. Monahan, and rare and never-before-seen bonus materials from the archives of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., in Tarzana, California. Many Edgar Rice Burroughs fans don't realize that the widely available Ace Books paperback edition of The Girl from Hollywood published in the 1970s was significantly abridged, with lengthy passages excised throughout. The Girl from Hollywood Centennial Edition restores the complete text of the novel from the original hardcover first edition.DARK SIDE OF HOLLYWOODShe is known by the stage name Gaza de Lure, an icon of the silver screen-the epitome of success for every aspiring actress who dreams of becoming a star in Hollywood. No longer is she Shannon Burke, the innocent Midwestern girl who moved to California seeking fame and fortune, for in her heart she holds a dark secret...one so dreadful, so shameful, that she can never hope to escape its grasp. When the Penningtons, a wholesome ranching family from the nearby foothills, come into her orbit, will they too be unable to extract themselves from the inexorable web of Hollywood corruption, drug peddling, addiction-and murder?
