This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

  • - Poetical Works and Poetry (unabridged versions)
    av Edgar Allan Poe
    439,-

Although best known for his short stories, Edgar Allan Poe was by nature and choice a poet. From his exquisite lyric 'To Helen' to his immortal masterpieces, 'Annabel Lee' 'The Bells' and 'The Raven' Poe stands beside the celebrated English romantic poets Shelley, Byron, and Keats, and his haunting, sensuous poetic vision profoundly influenced the Victorian giants Swinburne, Tennyson, and Rossetti. This book is carefully illustrated by the famous illustrator and cartoonist William Heath Robinson. William Heath Robinson (1872-1944) is an artist whose work, whether in his well known humorous drawings or his illustrations for Kipling, Shakespeare or children's stories, is integral to British cultural heritage. This book includes among others poems by Poe :"Alone" (1875) "Annabel Lee" (1849) "The Bells" (1849) "The City in the Sea" (1831) "The Conqueror Worm" (1843) "Dream-Land" (1844) "A Dream Within A Dream" (1850) "Eldorado" (1849) "For Annie" (1849) "The Haunted Palace" (1839) "The Raven" (1845) "The Sleeper" (1831) "To The River" (1829) "Spirits of the Dead" (1829) "A Valentine" (1850) "The Valley of Unrest" (1845) and many more poems.

The Masque of the Red Death is a classic short story by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1842 and considered an emblematic tale of gothic fiction. Featuring many of the tropes which define the genre, we witness in its pages a grim setting of a castle, and its multiple rooms which themselves resemble aspects of human personality. The story is not without its ironies: Prospero's castle, while mighty as an ideal guard against the disease ravaging the lands outside, ultimately serves an as an oppressor to the Prince Prospero, his wealthy guests, and his retinue. As the tension ratchets and the great and majestic masquerade turns to one of horror, we witness Poe's evocative flair for grim and horrific prose. Given the description of its symptoms, it is possible that the titular Red Death was inspired by tuberculosis, which was rife among the European continent throughout the 19th century. The Red Death somewhat resembles a highly accelerated form of consumption, which was a terror in society.

His most famous poem, "The Raven," earned him only $9 when it was published in 1845. His wife, Virginia, died two years after its publication, which seems to have sent Poe into a downward spiral of alcohol abuse and erratic behavior. Poe himself died only two years after Virginia, in 1849, at the age of 40.This bilingual edition of some of the most famous of Poe's short stories is designed to assist those learning French.
