    av Drew Chicone
    465,-

Although there are thousands of existing bonefish patterns, spend any amount of time around dyed-in-the-wool bone fishermen and you will find that that the Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule) definitely holds true. Only a small assortment of proven patterns earn a spot their fly boxes, no matter where they intend on fishing. Friends, guides, travel literature and most importantly personal on the flats experience have narrowed my list of must have bonefish flies down to 7 essential patterns... in no particular order. Ververka's Mantis Shrimp, Cownes Bonefish Scampi, McVay's Gotcha, Owen's 90 Percenter, Chicone's Tranqu-Hill-izer and Bone Appetit and Ginevri's Avalon have all proven to be highly productive for Andros Island in the Bahamas. Understanding where the fly was intended to be fished, what factors led the designer to choose the materials he did, and why the pattern has evolved helps to give you the whole picture. Interviews with the fly's designer will give you a peek into the heads of some of these innovative tiers and should help you to understand how they think and create new patterns as well as gives you a insider's perspective, valuable insight, and hopefully encouragement to create your own unique patterns.

  • - Eleven Proven Patterns for Belizean Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit
    av Drew Chicone
    575,-

All though it was nearly a decade ago, when I close my eyes, I can still envision the hypnotic scene as if I was watching it on TV. There wasn't a breath of wind, and the water covering the white sand flat was so clear that it was nearly impossible to differentiate where the water stopped, and the sky began. A few fluffy white clouds broke up the monotony of the bright blue skyline. In the distance, I could start to make out a few darker shapes, and as the small string of juvenile tarpon approached the bow of the boat, it looked as though they were hovering in mid-air. I took my sunglasses off and blinked a few times to readjust my eyes and ascertain the surface of the water. Never in my life had I experienced such a euphoric phenomenon, and I was doing everything I could to free myself from the illusion before I missed my opportunity.Trying to limit my movement, I made a gentile sidearm cast a few feet in front of the lead fish. The water's glass-like surface erupted, and my dreamy trance was broken as I watched the fish engulf my fly and explode into the air. The vivid course of events was immediately galvanized as one of my fondest core memories.Over the past 20 years, I have been blessed with the good fortune to have walked miles of white sand and explored some of the world's most picturesque estuaries, from Key West to the Cosmoledo Atoll. Each flat is surprisingly more unique than the last and home to a wide array of species; it's nearly impossible to choose a favorite. But, when and comes to family-friendly, easily accessible places with a wide variety of species, it's hard to imagine a more utopic fishing location than Belize.Located in the Caribbean, on the northeast coast of Central America, Belize has a tropical climate and is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. Over 60% of its land's surface is covered by lush forest, and off its coast is the world's second-largest barrier reef, which hosts over 500 species of fish. Not only are its waters teeming with life, but the flight from Florida is easy, and the fresh seafood is fantastic! What's not to like? The only problem I have encountered with Belize is narrowing down the selection of productive patterns to include in this book.I have written several species-specific books in the past, but this is the first that focuses on one location with countless species to target on the fly. Since space is limited, I have chosen to focus on the big three; bonefish, tarpon, and permit. It was not an easy task, but I am confident that the assortment of patterns outlined in this book will ensure you are covered given the opportunity for a shot at a slam ... and the insight provided in the interviews of the contributing guides and gurus will help you understand what factors need to be considered for creating and fishing your own flies.Belize Flies contains detailed step-by-step instructions for tying The Bauer Crab, The Black Fly, Flack's Fanta Shrimp, LeMay's Big Eye Tarpon Fly, Mitchell's Itchy & Scratchy, Austin's San Pedro Crab, Mathew's Turneffe Crab, and Pop's Bonefish Bitters, Chicone's Magnum Mantis, Calypso Coyote, and Tide Slave. These eleven proven bonefish, tarpon, and permit patterns will tip the odds in your favor when tying flies for your next Belize adventure. This is a 208-page paperback illustrated with ultra-hi-resolution images.

If you're anything like me, just hearing the words "bass fishing" evokes childhood memories of sweltering hot summers and brightly colored deer hair poppers. Unlike other freshwater species whose diet consists of minuscule bugs and worms, a largemouth can, and will, eat just about anything that hits the water. Although small baitfish, frogs, and lizards immediately come to mind, they will also consume small, mammals, birds, and even baby alligators (here in FL)!That being said, I did my best to select an assortment of proven patterns for this book that provided a wide array of menu options as well as teach you some fun and new tying techniques for creating your own unique creatures! The classic and contemporary largemouth bass patterns included in this book have a track record of success in a number of different conditions and fishing scenarios. Largemouth Bass Flies contains detailed step-by-step instructions for tying Leiser's Bass Angus, Mahler's StrawBoss, CJ's Freaky Frog, Chicone's King Rat, Pineapple Grenade Popper, Sunny Corleone Sunfish, and Carnivore Crayfish. 7 proven patterns for catching Largemouth Bass. This is a 199-page paperback, illustrated with ultra-hi resolution images.

There's a common misconception that all redfish are pushovers on fly. The fairytale being that this species as a whole is fantastically oversized and easily bamboozled with fur and feathers. We've been led to believe that you just bomb a fly, any fly, in their general vicinity and prepare to get down and dirty. But if your reality is anything like mine then you know that not all redfish look like Louisiana lunkers and they're certainly not all agreeable to any offering provided. The ones in my backyard, in and around southwest Florida's Pine Island Sound, generally behave more like permit, requiring more than just a close enough cast and dumb luck. These fish are routinely run over by powerboats, and due to a steady barrage of local tournaments, they are well educated when it comes to what they put into their mouths. For a long period of time, my redfish scorecard was full of refusals and lost opportunities. That stretch of failures really got me thinking about the flies I was throwing. The patterns outlined in this book have been fine-tuned and rigorously tested on countless grass flats, oyster bars, and mangrove shorelines. Tying and stocking your box with this proven assortment of flies will ensure you have the ammunition needed to coax even the most refined redfish, and the insight provided in the interviews of the contributing guides and tying gurus will help you understand what factors need to be considered to create your own productive redfish flies.Step-by-step tying instructions for tying "Flip Pallot's Bushwood", "Cave's Wobbler", "Epoxy Spoon Flies", "Mylar Spoon Flies","Bailey's Claw Seaducer" and "No Name Shrimp", my Swamp Cabbage Shrimp, and Modified Tampa Bay Redfish Fly. Eight proven patterns for catching redfish. This book is a 177-page paperback illustrated with ultra-hi resolution images.Insights from saltwater fly tiers and guru's including: Flip Pallot, Capt. Steve Bailey, Capt. Codty Pierce, and Jon Cave.
