Don't Forget Him was compiled with a very specific purpose in mind... to acknowledge and honor the good men in this world and pay tribute to those who inspire us. It is for those who feel that they are alone and have no one to turn to, for those who are out there every day doing the best that they can for those they love. It is our way of letting the world know that we "don't forget" them. The highest rate of suicide in the United States is amongst middle-aged white men, and over 3.5 times as many men attempt suicide than women. In Canada, the statistics are quite similar, where men are 3 times as likely to attempt it; I have little doubt that the statistics are comparable across the globe. Suicide is the second leading cause of death of youth and young adults between the ages of 15-34. I know that feminist movements have become more prominent over the last decade, and I believe in equality for everyone. I, like many of the women in this book, have been subjected to assault or abuse in one form or another, but that doesn't mean we hate all men... we hate what was done to us and want to prevent it from happening to others. We also acknowledge that men can be victims too. Many of us are daughters, mothers, granddaughters, nieces, sisters, friends... of good men who have been powerful and positive forces in our lives. I was humbled to be joined by the talents of so many wonderful women writers from across the world, women who understood the need to acknowledge the good guys. B.
