Die Senkung der Sterblichkeit von Neugeborenen und Müttern ist eines der Millenniumsentwicklungsziele (MDGs). Der Kampf gegen das Auftreten von Geburten mit niedrigem Geburtsgewicht ist eine der Strategien zur Erreichung dieser Ziele. Die Zielgruppe dieser Studie waren die Menschen in den nördlichen Randgebieten von Ouagadougou, die aus informellen, nicht erschlossenen Wohngebieten bestehen. Es handelte sich um eine retrospektive Querschnittsstudie mit Längsschnittdaten, die zwischen dem 14. Mai 2009 und dem 14. Mai 2012 erhoben wurden. Ziel der Studie war es, die Faktoren zu analysieren, die mit einem niedrigen Geburtsgewicht in den nördlichen Randgebieten von Ouagadougou verbunden sind. Die Studie umfasste eine Gesamtzahl von 2919 Geburten sowie die Merkmale der Mütter, die als erklärende Variablen dienten. Zu diesem Zweck wurden in dieser Arbeit deskriptive (bivariate Analyse mit Kreuztabelle) und erklärende (multivariate Analyse, insbesondere die binäre logistische Regression) Analysemethoden verwendet.

Reducing neonatal and maternal mortality is one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The fight against low birth weight is one of the strategies to achieve these goals. The populations of the northern peripheral zones of Ouagadougou, which are informal, unserviced housing areas, were the targets of this study. This was a retrospective cross-sectional study of longitudinal data collected between May 14, 2009 and May 14, 2012, with the objective of analyzing the factors associated with low birth weight in the northern peripheries of Ouagadougou. It included a total of 2919 births and the characteristics of their mothers as explanatory variables. To do this, descriptive (bivariate analysis with the cross-tabulation) and explanatory (multivariate analysis, in particular binary logistic regression) methods of analysis were used in this study.

A redução da mortalidade neonatal e materna é um dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio (ODM). A luta contra o baixo peso à nascença é uma das estratégias para alcançar estes objectivos. As populações das zonas periféricas do norte de Ouagadougou, que são zonas de habitação informal e sem serviços, foram os alvos do presente estudo. Este foi um estudo transversal retrospectivo de dados longitudinais recolhidos entre 14 de Maio de 2009 e 14 de Maio de 2012 com o objectivo de analisar os factores associados ao baixo peso à nascença nas periferias setentrionais de Ouagadougou. Cobriu um total de 2919 nascimentos, bem como as características das suas mães, que serviram como variáveis explicativas. Para o efeito, foram utilizados neste estudo métodos de análise descritivos (análise bivariada com tabulação cruzada) e explicativos (análise multivariada, em particular regressão logística binária).
