This program gives first-year college students an engaging, appealing, and encouraging introduction to higher education with a focus on mind-set and taking ownership of their college experience, and with tools to help them succeed in college and beyond. Creating The Future You takes a student-centric approach to fostering success through a concise, highly personalized, format, recognizing that student beginning their college studies at any given institution come to that institution from a variety of geographic locations and socioeconomic backgrounds, varied perspectives on social issues, and differing levels of academic ability, each with their own set of hopes and dreams for the future. The topics selected and the manner in which they are examined continually take students from their current or prospective role as students to the options they will have upon graduation and entry into the job market: Identifying their passionsPlanning for successTaking care of themselvesBuilding and maintaining relationshipsUnderstanding the power of Emotional IntelligenceLearning their wayEngaging with digital technologyTaking advantage of available opportunitiesEmbracing diversityFinding their happiness Engaging students in learning and conversation about these issues greatly increases their opportunities for success. This program provides a format for students to gain information on each topic, assess their own levels of performance, and engage in meaningful conversation with each other, with their professors and other members of their campus community, and with other important figures in their lives.
