"Woody" Woodward is an anachronism. Whereas a 74-year-old man should probably be lying in a hammock perusing the obits, that's not in Woody's DNA, especially after some three decades of working in a black-ops sub-agency for the government as an assassin. A whimsical notion takes him to Jekyll Island on the east coast of Georgia, where he befriends another vet, like himself, from the Vietnam War, where he served in the Intelligence Corp. It isn't long before he finds himself embroiled in an international sex-trafficking ring. Woody is a savant. He reads, he studies, he debates, and he solves problems and puzzles. Five teenagers from diverse backgrounds are brought together by a war. A Japanese, a Jew, a Native American, an African American, and a white kid from middle-class America form an interdependent relationship in the jungles of Vietnam. They become the most highly decorated squad in a war they don't understand, but their relationships transcend the social structures of racism formed through historical injustices, and they remain best friends for decades. Their iconic leader, Billy Stone, one day finds himself entangled with a Medicare scam dreamed up by his sister's husband. For his sister's sake, he must find a solution. The livelihoods of the others form within the law enforcement communities in their individual and collective quest for justice as they grow from boys to men of great character. Even the strongest of character has its flaws, but these men are the best of the best, and there is only one adversity they cannot overcome. From the Selma-to-Montgomery march, the internment camps of WWII, the poverty and desolation of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; to the estrangement of a father and son and a suicide of great consequence, this team of five becomes one. At the same time, there are "takers" like Billy's brother-in-law who infect the American system. They need to be brought to justice, but the price will be high. On the smallest of scales, this is an epic tale of how the dream of a world community can become a reality.

Harold Bartz, aka Bandit, has a low IQ which contrasts sharply with his delusions of grandeur. He flees Minneapolis after witnessing a murder. Once in Las Vegas, rather than hiding, he starts cooking up schemes. His pals, Banger and Diggs, soon join him. Bandit has company in Vegas: Yuri Vostov and Nikki Kerlenko, two Russian hit men sent by the sadistic Jethro Plack. A shady telemarketer, Plack separates guileless customers from their money. His company is in Minnesota, but he oversees Internet swindles from a hidden office in London. Plack's scam, Fortune Fate Lottery, gains the attention of Sean O'Dell, a St. Paul police lieutenant. O'Dell is investigating the explosion of Internet crime and its elderly victims. "C. J." Johannson, a Minneapolis cop, is assigned a suicide case. Lana Winton's death however, doesn't fit the profile of a suicide. C.J. begins gathering clues that lead him to Plack's office in St. Paul. Plack's elaborate scheme has evaded detection thus far. Working against him this time however, is his own man, hacker extraordinaire Tommy Ling, who becomes uncomfortable with the idea of destroying the lives of innocent victims. Ling hatches a plan to scam the scammers and become the Robin Hood Hacker. When Bandit finally comes forward, C. J. can go after Plack for murder and O'Dell can foil Plack's Internet scheme in London. With Plack behind bars, the Robin Hood Hacker makes headlines while Bandit and his pals stumble into a surprise in Vegas.
