A book of thoughts and poems of life and its workings.

  • av Zoë Austrie

'From Dusk to Dawn' is a book of poetry that invites the reader on an intimate exploration of the realms of Dark and Light. It begins with a journey of the Shadowed aspects of self- the dark and uncomfortable internal Truths- and ends in the discovery of Light. Often perceived as opposites, Dark and Light are, in fact, two points that exist on the same spectrum. This truth is echoed in the serene hours from dusk to dawn, where the Dark and Light become a harmonious union; serving as a reminder to embrace the duality that exists within in order to become One with ourselves.

The everyday sight of my beautiful wife and wonderful children torments me; the thought of any more suffering besides their frail existence, drains all my attempts to sanity as I can't dissociate myself from our finiteness. We have become so eager to squeeze as much as possible out of our shamefully short conscientiousness, that we have completely disregarded its utter uselessness.I do apologise for my incapacity to eat my daily circus' bread for the sake of entertaining myself into this, oblivion's waiting chamber called lifetime.I do apologise for my complete unwillingness to consider only the beginnings, turning a blind heart's eyes to what shouldn't follow, the end.I do not want to understand death; I do not want to accept death as "naturally" associated with life, as much as I don't want to accept evil as anywhere related to beauty and goodness. Please allow me the right of denying myself the allowance of stupidity; allow me to conclude that life in all its unfathomable beauty, is nothing else but utter emptiness, perpetually filled with more and more new, innocent lives, bound to gloriously live up to the vain task bestowed upon them by careless lovers. "Beautiful (soap) bubbles we are; endlessly rejoicing in one another's myriad of colours, just to fade into a last ghostly flicker as we silently burst, leaving behind, only the short, tear-touch of an ephemeral presence."

  • - Poétiques d'images
    av Patrick Vuargnoz-Dumont
    319,-

A darkly beautiful poetry collection about the storms and stars of being young by Olivia Hurton, a London-based poet, actress, writer and academic. In The Separation Ceremony, Olivia Hurton's trancelike voice conjures a world ruled by pure emotion. Underpinned by music and sound, rhythms and rhymes, these poems harness the sonic to explore love, loss, youth and corruption. Written over ten years, these poems are a groundbreaking poetic experiment, fusing fine art and guilty pleasure pop music with the macabre tradition of Victorian mourning poetry and the witty verse of the 1960s Merseyside Poets. Including 'The Separation Ceremony', 'You and Me in 2033', 'I Fall in Love Ten Times a Day', 'We are a Million Pieces of Something That is Gone' and 'Buried Voices'.

SEVEN GREAT CONTROVERSIAL FEMALE PERSIAN POETS Translation & Introduction Paul Smith Rabi'a of Balkh (10th c.) the first known female poet who wrote in Persian was the princess of Afghanistan whose love for a slave of her father the king caused her downfall... she wrote many of her poems in her own blood on the walls of the prison. Mahsati (12th century) was the liberated court poet of Sultan Sanjar who knew Nizami, Omar Khayyam. She composed in the ruba'i form and revolutionized it with her often scandalous verse. Jahan Khatun (1326-1416) was a beautiful, liberated princess in Shiraz and a friend and pupil of the great Hafiz... her Divan is four times the size of his. Makhfi or Zebunissa (1638-1702) was the daughter of the Emperor of India Aurangzeb and was eventually imprisoned and tortured to death for her Sufi views. Her over poems are deep, powerful, spiritual and at times heartbreaking. Tahirih (1817-1853). was a beautiful and intelligent woman who led a short and stormy life. She was a devotee of the Bab, who from Shiraz had given his prophetic message that would later appear in the form of Baha-ul-lah, the founder of the Baha'is. She was not only a poet but also wrote prose. Hayati (18th - 19th C.) was born into a Sufi family in the Kerman province of Persia. She was initiated into the Ni'matullahi Sufi order by Nur 'Ali Shah and was well-known for her passionate, mystical poems. Parvin (1907-1941) was one of Iran's greatest female poets. Her poems had mainly social or mystical subjects, often about the tyranny of the rich, rights of the poor and downtrodden, the role of women, meaningful fabulous fables. The correct rhyme-structure has been kept and the meaning of all these often controversial poems. Large Format (7"x10") Large Print (14pt) Pages 370. • - Poetry & a short story
    av Katie Ness
    249

These poems are rituals, taking the form of fragmented psalms, dreams, letters and even prayers for the primordial storm of the wild feminine.Katie explores the liminal space between the body of the earth as a primal entity in relation to the body as self in nature. Eco-poetry meets erotic and melancholic magical realism.Aphrodite for centuries has been trivialised as only the goddess of love and desire. Yet in ancient scriptures she is described as a mother goddess and even a deity of war. She is the Greek variant of Inanna and Isis- both exceedingly powerful feminine archetypes from the ancient world. Aphrodite oozes the long forgotten rhythms of nature, the chaos, the sensualities, the tragedies, and the magick of womanhood. Aphrodite, born of the sea, walks the earth and governs the heavens as the bright light we know today as Venus. As the Morning Star she governs the earthly pleasures of Taurus and as the Evening Star she governs the silky and poetic dusky intellect of Libra. These poems explore and exalt her energy in every fruit, animal, word, emotion and flesh.Katie pours dream-like lyricism into a reimagining of ancient hymns as though channelled by Sappho herself. Attempting to retrieve a silenced female voice from the depth of the earth, speaking of nature with reverence and passion.Katie's poems and short story dwell within the tender, shifting borderland between languages, and between poetic forms, to examine the shape and texture of memories, of myths, of love and what it is to be a woman. Abundant with multiplicities, these poems find lush, distinctive pleasure in sensory nourishment in dreamy disorientating eroticism, executed with painterly strokes of the wild complex geography of the ancient feminine coursing through our earth and women's hearts today.

Poems grounded in a reverence for nature explore the beauty, transience and impermanence of life.A Zen-like quality pervades the poetry which is often stark and lyrical. Included are intensely personal poems about physical and emotional abuse and the pain that it brings. Other poems question the universe and the standard answers our cultures offer. These poems haunt the reader like a gentle wind.
