Larry Fink: Hands On / A Passionate Life of Looking is a 432-page encapsulation of Larry Fink’s master photos accompanied by insightful essays from Lucy Sante, Stephen Shore, Graydon and Ash Carter, Yolanda Cuomo, and publisher Daniel Power. Larry Fink: Hands On / A Passionate Life of Looking offers an unprecedented overview of Fink’s career and his profound influence in the Lisette Model world (under whom he was mentored) on photography and on broader American culture.Celebrated as a photographer of the people, Larry Fink is known for his impromptu, street-style black-and-white photographs that delve into societal complexities, class divides, and the essence of human connection. Throughout his career, which spanned from the 1950s to his passing in November 2023, Fink documented a broad spectrum of subjects, spanning from the glamorous scenes of Vanity Fair Oscar parties to the streets of impoverished Philadelphia neighborhoods. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to authentically portraying the human experience across diverse communities.Larry Fink: Hands On / A Passionate Life of Looking presents a comprehensive exploration of Fink's remarkable career for the first time. Over his lifetime, Fink meticulously stored his images in boxes, where they often remained forgotten for months or even years. However, during the pandemic, Fink dedicated himself to combing through these boxes with the dream of creating a retrospective of his work: photographs and beat-style poetry. This endeavor gained momentum when Daniel Power, founder of powerHouse Books and a longtime collaborator of Fink, photographers Jonno Rattman and Jamie Cabreza, and art director Yolanda Cuomo joined Fink in his archival journey. They unearthed a trove of unseen treasures, resulting in a meticulously curated 432-page testament to Fink's unparalleled creativity alongside his trademark jazz poetry. Fink’s vast repertoire includes photographs of celebrities like Jay-Z and Meryl Streep, protesters marching down streets, and boxers in the ring (Including a look into his other books, Boxing (1998), Runway (2000), Social Graces (2001), Forbidden Pictures (2004), and The Beats (2014)). This book reaches even further by including non-human subjects like intimate portraits of insects in their natural habitat and dead animals grotesquely displayed. Larry Fink's distinctive signature – his raw and experimental approach, his spontaneity, his interest in class commentary, and his intimate perspective – are presented in a manner unprecedented in his body of work, applied to subject matter viewers have rarely seen Fink tackle. Each image, painstakingly selected, offers a poignant insight into Fink's unwavering commitment to his craft and insatiable curiosity about the world.

This study argues that intimacy requires an overcoming of shame, and each of these artists, in their own way, uses photography to frame moments that can be shameful to some and intimate others, leaving it to the viewer to navigate this affectively perilous terrain.

An Annual Affair: Some Traditional British Calendar Customs is the culmination of over fifteen years work by leading UK photographer Homer Sykes. Over that period he has searched out and photographed an extraordinary range of traditional annual events and customs that are steeped in British local history and heritage. Most are unknown outside their immediate community. An Annual Affair is the conclusion of a career long photographic documentation of traditional annual country customs and small town traditions. It follows on from Sykes' highly successful book Once A Year, first published in 1977 and most recently republished in 2016 by Dewi Lewis Publishing. In this new book there are over 140 photographs from nearly 80 different events, all but three not previously photographed by Sykes. At the back of the book there is a fascinating section dedicated to fuller captions and explanations regarding the history and origin of each event. Homer Sykes has published more than 16 books. He has featured in magazines worldwide and has exhibited widely, with his first show being held in 1971 at the ICA, London. He was even the first British photographer to be granted a one man exhibition in the prestigious Maison Robert Doisneau museum in Paris.

Dove / Chris Kirubi's WILDPLASSEN is a finely-wrought debut collection. The weather surrounds, as subjectivity is carefully interrogated through typographic gesture and image. Thinking with Sembéne, Glissant, Nourbese Philip and others, we are ushered into a space of translation and study reflecting on dispossession, native informants and racial categorisation. "Wildplassen" is a legal term for public urination in which wildness is invoked as an inappropriate occupation of public (urban) space. This collection transfigures the borders of air, city and landscape; language, lyric and page with instability and waywardness. WILDPLASSEN by Dove/Chris Kirubi is a wondrous book. The pages shake, an attribute of syntax that resembles brownian motion. Just as "colour bleeds right through", so does this: a capacity to "tremble" that's both somatic and formal, an improvised set of notations. In fact, kirubi extends the intergenre proposition of the collection itself to emanate "gliss.notes", fragments and lines "transcribed...while attempting to translate," a "flickering close-up of flowers", and so on. This is a stunning and moving work from the verges of poetry, performance and visual art. - Bhanu KapilAfter the rain, Chris Kirubi's WILDPLASSEN meets us in the street, as all the mundane elements of the day world begin to glisten: light diffracting in the damp sheen upon the tarmac, pavements, railings, rainbows appearing in puddles. This poetry encourages us to loiter, or to walk intentionally at the slowest pace in the opposite direction to what racial capitalism would want of us. Only then emerge the small intimacies that Kirubi is attuned to, in the correspondences between sounds, syllables, plants. Their writing forages a quiet philosophy for the page. Pirouettes of emotion --- from this everyday enchantment, to anxiety and grief --- "encourage the recovery of all dreams". Come, pluck up your velveteen ears from beneath your raincoat, and remember to wash your hands. - Nat RahaFor Fans of: Victoria Adukwei-Bulley, Dionne Brand, Momtaza Mehri

I Will Pay to Make it Bigger is a novella and photobook by poet and visual artist Ahren Warner. Through text and image, the book searches for a way through a network of related subjects, ideas and feelings: the consumption of pleasure, freedom and hedonism; the purchase of feeling; the construction of (particularly male) identity as a cultural product, and the fragility of that construction; the fine, blurry lines between acquisition, enjoyment, love and desire, and the way any and all of these can be used to fill holes in our selves, even if only momentarily, and even if destructively. The book is also a work of both autofiction and docufiction. The photographs were produced during three months documenting 'party hostels' in Thailand. Yet, for all that these photographs might seem to exist as the documentation of 'moments', they are in fact quite painstakingly constructed: almost always beginning their lives as several still frames from film footage which have been composited and processed at length to reintroduce an artificial sense of movement, to become both a record of movement and hedonism, and a fictionalised artefact of impulse, drive and motion, that speaks directly, and on a level of materiality, to the concerns of the novella, whilst never illustrating, and only very rarely interacting directly, with the text itself.
