"Strategically located on the Atlantic Ocean at the westernmost point of the continent, Senegal is well-known as an epicenter of Africa's modernities, modernisms, and liberation movements. It was also one of the countries where the daguerreotype first arrived in sub-Saharan Africa before circulating inland and across the region. Senegal's photographic histories thrived as part of a global visual economy during and despite the colonial experience. The artist book "Marcel van Eeden - 1898" is being published to coincide with the Hans-Thoma Prize 2023. The prize-winner, Marcel van Eeden (* 1965), explores Thoma's little-known travels to the Netherlands in 1898. He reflects on Thoma's analysis of Rembrandt van Rijn or Paulus Potter, under the problematic influence of cultural theorist Julius Langbehn. Present-day gum bichromate images of the places Thoma visited alongside historical quotes by Thoma and Langbehn result in a multifaceted, critical consideration of nationalistic views on culture.

Self-staging, self-exposure, self-erasure - these are the themes that Michaela Moscouw (*1961) worked on uncompromisingly, excessively and memorably over three decades. Until the early 1980s, the Viennese artist painted abstract pictures, then she destroyed her entire oeuvre and filmed herself doing it. She thus changed medium and since then has exclusively used the means of photography. She obsessively pursued concepts and designs of an aestheticised body experience.For her self-stagings as a radical act and expression of personal emotionality, she acted like an actress rehearsing different roles, questioning gender-specific clichés and body images. She worked on the terrain of VALIE EXPORTS, Friederike Pezolds or Renate Bertlmanns.Today, Michaela Moscouw lives in seclusion in Vienna. Her works have been continuously destroyed, yet works by her have survived in public and private collections. Tomaron gran cantidad de fotografías, grabaron al menos cincuenta horas en audio con entrevistas a los integrantes de la banda narrando sus vidas y filmaron otra buena cantidad en VHS, mayormente con sus viajes, ensayos y conciertos.Al terminar su trabajo de forma tan abrupta, tuvieron que entregar todo el material recopilado, incluyendo sus notas manuales sin aviso previo. No pudieron hacer copias, no se lo esperaron. Y lamentablemente, nada de esto se hizo público hasta la fecha.Quien se apoderó de todos estos documentos valiosos, tal vez viva en la actualidad, igual que algunos músicos y personal técnico. Pero no pude ubicarlos, y por lo que sé, después de aquella inesperada tragedia, todo se vino abajo. Perdieron a la persona más querida e importante del grupo, que finalmente provocó el quiebre y la disolución del mismo.Dana Hard, fue la banda de rock más importante de ese entonces y brilló en todo su esplendor durante su pequeña gira en el año 1980.
