Das gegenwärtige Verständnis, dass alles Lustvolle, Freudvolle, Sexuelle aus der Kunst verschwinden soll, weckt in mir Widerstand. Meine künstlerische Arbeit ist deshalb radikaler, expliziter, schamloser geworden. Dass praktisch alle meine Modelle natürlich behaart sind, ein schönes Schamhaar-Dreieck, manchmal unrasierte Beine oder Achselhöhlen haben, hat sicher viel mit meiner rebellischen, dem Mainstream entgegengesetzten Lebensart zu tun. Die Auswahl meiner Bilder in diesem Buch konzentriert sich auf die weibliche Körperbehaarung und dabei ganz besonders auf aufregend schöne und haarige Muschis. Daniel Bauer

Originally published in 1947, Horace Pippin: A Negro Painter In America was one of the first monographs ever of a Black American artist; a survey of the paintings of self-taught painter Horace Pippin (1888-1946). This reprint contains all of the original text and maintains the original formatting. It is a well-illustrated book containing a complete chronological catalog of Pippin's paintings, a chronology of his life, and the artist's autobiographical sketch, "My Life's Story," drawn from two of his manuscripts.This book contains 6 sketches and 50 full-color plates of Pippin's work.About Horace PippinHorace Pippin was born February 22, 1888, just twenty-three years after the Civil War and the end of slavery. His grandparents were slaves, and his parents were domestic workers. He was an African American folk painter known for his depictions of African American life and of the horrors of war. Horace Pippin was called a folk artist because he had no formal art training and was completely self-taught.In 1917 Horace Pippin joined the army and fought France during World War I. After spending fourteen months fighting in the trenches, Pippin was severely wounded in his right arm, and doctors concerned his right arm to be useless. Pippin took up art in part to rehabilitate his injured arm, and began painting on stretched fabric in 1930 with "The Ending of the War: Starting Home." He later explained his creative process: "The pictures which I have already painted come to me in my mind, and if to me it is a worthwhile picture, I paint it."He initially made burnt-wood art panels then decided to try painting with oil. He used his "good" left hand to guide his crippled right hand, which held the paintbrush, across the canvas. It took him three years to finish his first painting. He addressed a range of themes in his works, including landscapes, still lifes, biblical subjects and political statements. He used bright colors, flat shapes, and straight lines. He did not use shading or complicated perspective. The injustice of slavery and American segregation figure prominently in many of his works.

For several years, Samuel Gratacap has been visiting territories that bear the traces of a precarious, temporary occupation, of a passage and of a contemporary history: that of the paths of exile on the Mediterranean rim. Bilateral echoes the presence - real or suggested - of exiles on the French-Italian border, and the question of their passage through this transalpine sector. It is also a work on the landscape, on both sides of the border, the one that separates and unites us in turn. Samuel Gratacap tried to put his eyes on it and to listen to the people he met, in an effort to criticize the media images and the traditional representations that are proposed.

Border closures, flight cancellations, stay-at-home orders; a collective populace clinging to news broadcasts, online analysis, social media, and hearsay. Few times in our living memory had language - however fragmented, misinformed, measured or rhetorical - carried such weight.The early iterations of Mountain of Salt, Bindi Vora's expansive series of text-based collage works, began to take form in this very context. Comprising found photographs and digital shape collages, each married to phrases and statements appropriated from news articles, press conferences, and social media, the 371-strong series traces the interweaving social, political and ideological arcs of the early phases of the pandemic, the post-Brexit era, and Black Lives Matter, landing squarely on the potency of language. 'I, like many others, became acutely aware of the landscape in which we were living in, where everything felt amplified,' says Vora. 'Clinging to the news for updates, statistics and curves ... for me it highlighted the way words and speech have a physical presence, bearing upon us and carrying weight.'Through a cacophony of visual and textual fragments, this book - the London-based artist's first with Perimeter Editions - revels in the tension between the micro and macro, the individual and collective, and the personal and political, teasing out and making connections between the individual events and linguistic armatures that come to build broader historical eras and movements. The outcomes are incisive, sober, witty, and wry, magnifying language's ability to both define and dispel the collective mood. Drowning in a morass of information, phrases, photographs, infographics, throwaway lines, and revolutionary dictums, Vora's visually poetic works echo the unfixed contemporary state. 'EUROPA?' is a collaboration between a Spanish photographer and a British writer; combining photography and fiction to examine the experiences of modern European migrants. Ignacio Evangelista's haunting photographic series 'After Schengen' shows abandoned and disused European border crossings following 1985's Schengen Agreement... writer Chris Burkham saw these photos in the UK's Independent on Sunday newspaper, and the result is 'EUROPA?'; a hybrid collection of images and fiction.
