The photos in this edition are black and white. The traditional Pontiac V-8 ushered in the age of great American overhead valve V-8s with its introduction in 1955. Almost immediately, it became the basis for competition power plants. As time passed and the engine evolved to greater heights and larger displacements, avid Pontiac enthusiasts took advantage of the design's strong points and overcame its weaknesses to build a legendary performance history. Today's Pontiac enthusiast has a wide range of factory and aftermarket components to choose from, and in How to Build Max-Performance Pontiac V-8s, all the critical components are reviewed in great detail. This book includes honest advice on the proper way to modify components for optimal power and durability. The book also gives readers an assessment of the many aftermarket accessories offered for these great engines, and shares the capabilities such parts bring with them. In addition, high-performance engine buildups are completed and the results are shared. If you're considering building a traditional Pontiac V-8 engine for increased power and performance or even for competitive racing, this book is a critical component to achieving your goals.

The photos in this edition are black and white. Vintage, retro, or classic hot rods have been an enduring element of the hot rod hobby. These vintage roadsters, sedans, and coups have become very popular because they are the bedrock of the hot rodding culture. However, many rodders have built a rod dedicated to a particular decade, era, region, flavor, or style, but these have lacked all the period correct details, and it''s crucial to get all the details (ie parts) right. If some parts are not of the complementary or the package does not faithfully replicate a particular style or era, the theme of the hot rod can be ruined. Hot rod veteran Gerry Burger explains how to identify, buy, or build the parts to create a faithful period correct hot rod--a car that you will be proud of and will gain the respect from others in the hobby. The book showcases all the parts that make a faithful and consistent hot rod of a certain era, flavor, or style. The book covers 50s and 60s style, both East Coast and West Coast. It details the wide range of stock parts and popular high-performance parts from a particular era. He discusses when they were first produced and when they were in popular use. Once you decide on the theme and time period for your hot rod build, Burger discusses how to choose the period correct engine for your chassis, valve covers, intakes, and carbs that also match the period from Edelbrock, Offenhauser, and others. Similar chapters also cover, interiors, wheels and tires, frames, suspension, and all other components. When it comes to putting together all the pieces to create an attractive, accurate, and fun hot rod from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, no other book is a better guide than How to Build Period Correct Hot Rods.

This Floyd Clymer publication focuses on the post-war (1945-1955) TC, TD and TF series which accounted for 94% of the total production run of all T series MG's. It's a logical association of those models due to the similarity and, in many cases, the identical nature of their mechanical (and electrical) components and assemblies.

After a period of post-war austerity, in 1957 Alfa Romeo decided it was time to re-enter the market for luxury/executive class cars with a new range designed for the growing number and prosperity of potential customers. Thus, the first models in the new 2000 series emerged, followed by the 2600 series in 1962. That they were not hugely successful, although some 18,540 were manufactured between 1957 and 1966, can be attributed to a number of factors, principally cost.Alfa Romeo 2000 and 2600 introduces the history of the company and its early designs and includes information on prototypes, show specials, specification tables, colour schemes and production numbers. Largely ignored for many years, these cars are now recognized as a significant element in Alfa Romeo's history and this book is a valuable record of their story.

The photos in this edition are black and white.
Chevy's W-series 348 and later the 409 became legends on the street, and in particular the 409 also became a legend on the track. In the early 1960s, these engines powered a variety of GM vehicles and the Z11 Impalas at the drag strip. While these engines enjoyed a hay day in the early 1960s and pop culture status in the hot rod community, especially with the Beach Boys and their hit song "409", higher horsepower Mark IV Chevy big-block engines overshadowed these W-engines by the late 1960s. But recently, the 348s and 409s have enjoyed a high-performance renaissance and many speed manufacturers are making heads, blocks, and virtually every part for these engines.
Veteran magazine writer and author John Carollo provides insightful instruction for rebuilding a stock engine and also how to build a sound performance W-engine as well. The reader is shown how to select a strong clean block, free of core shift and fatal cracks, select the best heads for a particular build, and increase the compression ratio. Selecting a camshaft and a strong connecting rod and piston combination is also an important aspect of the engine build, and all options are examined.
Guidance in this book will allow you to select the right cam for a high-performance aftermarket package and a cam that won't over power a stock engine's valve train. In addition, building a large displacement stock engine of 427 inches or aftermarket block to go to 509 inches is covered. From mild to wild, from stock to modified, the book covers everything you need to know about the legendary 348-409 engines.

  • - The Revolutionary MG
    av David Knowles

The MGA truly marked a revolution in MG sports car design, with its appearance quite unlike any previous production car from the celebrated British marque. Entering production in the summer of 1955, it broke with the time-honoured tradition of narrow-gutted, flat-sides, upright styling, with the distinctive large grille, exposed headlamps, separate wings and sharply cut-off tail that had serviced the majority of MG sports cars for well over thirty years. Many die-hard MG enthusiasts of the time were understandably outraged, but the decision to break with tradition proved to be a good one: over 100,000 cars were produced over the model's seven-year lifetime. This book, from celebrated author David Knowles covers: the circumstances that led to the momentous decision to amek such a fundamental design change; the production, publicity and evolution of each and every MGA variant from launch in 1955 to the end of production in 1962, with specification tables for each model; profiles of the people who had crucial roles in the development of the MGA and finally, the largely untold story of overseas assembly in Australia, Ireland, Mexico and South Africa.

The A-904 and A-727, debuting in 1960 and 1962, respectively, are 3-speed automatic Chrysler TorqueFlite transmissions. In Mopar circles, they have become synonymous with strength, durability, and performance. In fact, 43 years after its first application, the A-904 derivatives were still found in the Dodge van and Jeep lineup!TorqueFlites are known for their dependability, but many have endured a tremendous amount of abuse through the past 50-plus years when hooked up to V-8 Mopar powerplants. There is little doubt that some of these automatics could be prone to failure, or at least need a thorough rebuild. Author Tom Hand shares his decades of experience rebuilding TorqueFlite transmissions with chapters dedicated to troubleshooting, disassembly, reassembly, performance modifications, post-installation procedures, and a thorough transmission ID guide. He also includes a source guide.Hand walks you through the TorqueFlite rebuild with highly detailed, easy-to-follow text and color photos showcasing step-by-step procedures.
